Following God's Call
To our dear Family and Friends,
Some of you may already be aware of what God is doing in our lives recently, but for all of you, we would like to give an update of what has transpired in the past 18 months. You can check out Our Story link and up-to-the-minute details on our Blog Page.
We have had a passion for missions ever since our first experiences, in 2003 for Terry, and 2004 for Butch. Although, we have been seeking God’s Plan for us in missions very seriously since 2006. We did not have a true grasp on what God intended for us, until together, we began seeking His heart's desire, not ours. This was becoming a bit of a struggle for us because every time we tried to make plans to pursue our mission in Jamaica, something would arise to prevent us from following through. But we waited, somewhat, patiently.
Then in August, 2011 our hearts were captured by the people of Magdalena Milpas Altas, Guatemala, and the surrounding area. This caught us a bit by surprise because this was not what we thought was the direction we were to go. You can read a bit more about that in Our Story. However, God’s timing is perfect, and we were, and are, listening. We still needed to learn a few things about ourselves, our relationship with each other and how to really step out in faith and let go of life as we know it. Our smoldering fire was given the fuel it needed. After our second trip to Guatemala in May 2012, that fire grew into the fierce burning passion to totally lay our lives down, and be obedient to God’s Call. All of those closed doors began to open wider than our eyes could see, and in our blind faith, we have found an unexplainable peace within ourselves. We have chosen to answer God’s Call
by committing ourselves to what He desires for us in Guatemala.
If you have never experienced a third world country, or have only seen it from a tourists’ perspective, there is so much more than providing food, or a house for the people to live in. There is sickness; there is disease, people die, babies die, and much of this could be prevented simply be seeking medical attention. Because of the despair, people become hardened, calloused and empty, resulting to addictions, violence and many other substitutions, all in an effort to fill voids that only God can fill. Though we have seen only small portion of this, we are very aware that these are just a few of the things that will break our hearts, and draw us to a better understanding of our purpose. We need to stay focused on God’s Plan, continuously seek His Will, and always remain in His Joy.
We have recently purchased our one-way airline tickets to relocate to Guatemala on February 11, 2013. We have no time limit as to our stay, because we feel as though it would be putting limitations on God. So our stay will be indefinite. We still have many unknowns, as to our housing and our specific purpose, but we know God has that already planned out for us, and we have confidence God will use us, and stretch us in many new ways. Our first goal is to focus on learning the language, and the culture of the community where we will live and serve. We believe it is important to live in the same community of those who we are sent to serve. It is our hope to be seen as Jesus’ hands and feet, to love unconditionally as Jesus does, and to allow His Light to shine ever so bright through us.
Your partnership with us in prayer and support as we begin this new journey in our lives would be a blessing. God is doing great things with us, and through us, and we would be honored to include you as part of His team. Financial support is also a necessary part of what we need to ask. This is one of those “stepping out of our comfort zone” issues that we have needed to pray about. God has blessed us with a good business to be able to provide for ourselves for many years, leaving this income behind causes us to rely fully on God. Through prayer, we are called to Trust in Him, for this is His Plan we are asking our friends and family to support, not ours, and it is not up to us to pick and choose whom He will move to further His Kingdom. Not everyone has the calling, or ability to journey onto the mission field, but many have the desire to support such a calling of those they are connected to, trust, believe in, and love. We pray our calling to serve in Guatemala can be a ministry you can be excited about supporting. (See Below)
We are humbled and blessed to be drawn to this journey. We both come from a rather
simple life, but have been transformed by God for this time. Looking back, we have seen
many of the details God has put into place to prepare us, and we are greatly amazed at what we have become, only by His grace and mercy. Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them, and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Whether you are able to support us financially or not, we ask you to partner with us in prayer. Please pray for our transition, and our family as we leave. Pray for God to use us in the community to help meet their needs, and spread His Love. Pray for spiritual wisdom and strength, and for us to be a light wherever we go.
We are thankful to have you as part of our lives, whether it has been through family, church, friends, missions, business, or however. We truly believe God has placed you in our lives to show us His love, and provide us with encouragement, guidance, and support. We look forward to sharing with you the journey God has planned for us.
We would love the opportunity to visit and share this with your church family either before we leave, or during our next visit home.
